National Careers Service Persian television debut
National Careers Service Adviser, Laurie McLoughlin, was recently interviewed on careers advice and finding the right job by Manoto1, the most popular TV channel among Farsi speakers in the UK, Europe and Middle East.
During the interview, Laurie explained that it was important for individuals to choose a career based on their interests and strengths. She also highlighted the importance of individuals researching an area of work first and looking at volunteering to help them explore a career pathway in more depth. Each topic was introduced in Farsi and all of Laurie's responses were translated.
The interviewer asked Laurie to explain how to produce a good CV. This was answered using a step by step visual process that viewers could easily follow. Laurie gave practical tips about interviews and demonstrated positive and negative body language, including the importance of a good handshake.
As part of the interview the National Careers Service website was filmed, highlighting functions such as: advertising tools, the CV Builder, Skills Health Check and Job Profiles.
Towards the end of the segment, National Careers Service London District Manager, Anahita Aminossehe made an appearance to summarise the National Careers Service in Farsi and explain that support is available in a variety of languages.
After the interview Laurie said, “This has been an interesting way of promoting our service to a wider audience and making sure we reach people from different cultural backgrounds which is an important part of the National Careers Service.”
The interview will be broadcast on the daily flagship show, Manoto+, which has over a half a million viewers and will be available to view on-line through the channel’s website.
