Over the last year the team has been working with the University of Gloucestershire to provide mentors for local people in care interested in Higher Education.

One of the mentors asked YST to meet with the Course Leader of Social Work BSc (Hons), David Hambling, who wanted to develop closer links with Prospects. This led to David meeting four Children in Care and Care Leavers, who shared their experiences of being in care with student social workers.

The students gave very positive feedback to the experience:

“It was a really good lecture.”
“It was a really good lecture, one of the best for me!”
“Found this afternoon’s lecture one of the best so far!”

David said: “It was one of the most powerful lectures I have been part of since joining the university three years ago”.

The young people also received a signed certificate from the University, and were encouraged to explore Higher Education options.
