News Release - Stars shine bright at Croydon Business Awards night

16 May 2014

Last night (15 May), the winners of the fourth annual Croydon Business Awards were announced at a gala dinner and awards ceremony at Fairfield Halls, Croydon.

The Croydon Business Awards are organised by Prospects Business Support, part of the Prospects Group, the education, employment and training organisation. This year nearly 100 organisations entered the Croydon Business Awards and 43 were selected as finalists by a panel of independent judges.

More than 200 guests attended the black tie event, which was hosted by LBC presenter, Julia Hartley-Brewer. The winners of all 11 categories were announced, as well as the Croydon Business of the Year Award, selected by the judges from all the finalists, which went to Chequers Contract Services.

The judges felt that Chequers stood out as the winners for many reasons. Judge Keith Yeoman, Branch Manager at Handelsbanken and title sponsors of the Awards said: “Chequers have been functioning for 27 years. With more than 600 cleaning operatives and working in conjunction with housing associations and local councils, they are more than a contract commercial cleaning company and regularly organise charitable events, community days and job fairs. Chequers hold family values as the core of their success. As industry specialists their knowledge and expertise ensures clients’ needs are always met and their business retained year after year.”

Kate Ward, Sales & Marketing Director of Chequers Contract Services, said: “I can’t believe it, wow what a night! Winning the award for Business of the Year didn’t even enter my mind. We are so honoured to receive this, it means a lot to us. It shows the hard work the team have put in. The business was established in Purley by my two brothers 27 years ago, and we will remain in the borough. We are so proud of the borough and our staff. We couldn’t function without the staff.”

Rose Saunders, Head of Prospects Business Support, said: “Congratulations to all the winners, they faced tough competition as the calibre of entries for the Croydon Business Awards was extremely high this year. The winners are organisations which are leading the way in Croydon and beyond. Winning a Croydon Business Award is not only an opportunity to celebrate achievements but to look to the future and grow through the new networks created at the gala dinner and the opportunities that winning brings.”
