Melanie* gets help from a National Careers Service Adviser to improve her CV and job applications

National Careers ServiceAfter finishing her GCSEs, Melanie* struggled to find long term employment.
She felt that her job applications were going unnoticed and wanted help to rectify the situation. Melanie contacted the National Careers Service to arrange an interview and began meeting an adviser twice a month.

Together they reviewed Melanie’s methods of job applications; the Adviser studied her CV and reassessed the best format for her covering letters, they also looked at application processes and made improvements to Melanie’s personal statement.

Melanie was shown the online tools on the National Careers Service website to assess her skills strengths. An action plan was then created and used throughout the sessions.

As a result of the meetings Melanie felt motivated and said “All this help has given me a confidence boost.” Her CV and applications improved and she was able to gain full time employment in retail.

She now has the financial stability needed to look for long term employment in the career she truly wants - office administration.
