Local Authorities

Local Authorities

Prospects provides high quality, cost-effective and innovative services for local authorities (LAs) and communities across the UK. Our highly skilled and qualified staff work successfully with council colleagues, whose priorities and challenges they understand fully.

Approach

  • Local delivery, empowering our staff to provide the right help to customers
  • Involving local people in the planning, design and evaluation of services
  • Local managers responding quickly and effectively to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Value for money
  • Targeted support

Many of our contracts with local authorities are to provide targeted information, advice and guidance (IAG) to young people in vulnerable groups including care leavers, young parents/carers, young people with learning difficulties and disabilities. They are usually targeted to reduce levels of NEET (not in education, employment or training). LAs covered include Oxfordshire, Leicestershire, Wakefield, Bradford and several London boroughs. Gloucestershire – a unique model

In Gloucestershire we have worked in partnership with the County Council (GCC) since 2008, leading and managing their Youth Support Services while providing IAG services directly to young people. We recently won a much enlarged contract with GCC and transferred many of their staff to Prospects. We have achieved highly positive results in Gloucestershire, for instance with young offenders and care leavers, and reduced service costs by £1.2m, as verified by the Audit Commission, with no loss of quality. Mutuals support

Prospects is an employee-owned mutual organisation and advises local authorities on ‘spinning out’ departments as public service mutuals. We recently won a contract with the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to be the Independent Sector Partner in the first joint mutual in local government, the Triborough 3BM. Prospects has a share in the new mutual company which provides school support services. If you are interested in developing mutual options for your authority, find out more
