Prospects helps care leavers and Looked After Children into employment and training
Prospects manages the commissioned service for the Council, providing leaving care and statutory social worker support for 16+ Looked After Children in Calderdale. The team consists of pathway advisers and social workers providing support on a range of issues including accommodation, financial support, entry into employment or training, offending and emotional wellbeing.
Prospects’ Leaving Care Service ensures that young people who are looked after by the Council and who leave care, have their needs assessed and have appropriate plans in place. We help with their preparation for transition from care to independent living including creating opportunities to help them strengthen their resilience.
We work closely with carers and colleagues in Children’s Social Care, Young People’s Services and Adult Services resulting in creative, effective and robust Pathway Plans in which care leavers have been involved. We help young people plan their education, training and employment, find suitable accommodation and help them negotiate access to adult and main-stream services including appropriate support funding.
Prospects' pathway workers promote healthy living and emotional wellbeing signposting the young person to appropriate help and we support them to maximise their life chances by encouraging active engagement in sports, developing special talents, hobbies and involvement in their local community.
Prospects’ advisers make sure that young people who leave care receive a quality services which is co-ordinated and provided to achieve positive outcomes and maximise their life opportunities. We ensure that our Service meets and, where possible, exceeds minimum statutory requirements. We provide high quality supervision to staff and care leavers with active engagement and partnership working in order to achieve the best outcomes possible for young people leaving care.
