Young People's Careers Information, Advice and Guidance

Helping young people

Our young people's careers information, advice and guidance services help 13 to 19 year olds and young people with learning disabilities and difficulties (LDD) up to age 25, in over 20 local authority areas. More than 350,000 young people are supported each year with their transitions through education and training to employment.

Education, jobs and training advice

Prospects Advisers provide information about careers, jobs, education courses, volunteering and training opportunities. We help young people develop CVs and interview skills, preparing them for their future career options. Our Advisers also offer confidential support and practical help (on issues such as funding for education) and can refer young people for specialist help.

Careers Centres

Prospects Services Ltd has successfully been awarded to run the National Careers Service across the whole of London.  Prospects have over 30 advisers working in outreach locations all over London. We also have 45 different subcontractors covering all London boroughs.

Integrated youth services

Integrated Youth ServicesIntegrated youth services, saving £1.2 million

Our services for young people include the highly innovative partnership for delivery of youth services in Gloucestershire, commended by the Audit Commission for saving £1.2 million.

All targeted youth support

This ground breaking contract covers all targeted youth support services (careers advice, youth service, youth offending, teenage pregnancy advice, help for care leavers and substance-misuse services). This promotes flexibility and sharing of skills. Resources are used where they are needed most and the contract is based on performance.

Top performance

The results speak for themselves. More young people are using the service, the figures for reducing the number of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) are some of the best in the country and the youth offending service is rated as outstanding. There has also been highly positive feedback from young people.

Partnership

There are very strong partnerships not only between Prospects and the County Council, but with all of the agencies and organisations helping young people in the County, including children's centres, young parent groups, GPs, learning providers and voluntary agencies. Prospects manages the services, reporting directly to Gloucestershire County Council's Director of Children's Services.

Children's Services Projects

Children's Services Projects"Starship" is an example of one of our projects aimed at 16 to 24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEET) and those at risk. It offered individual life coaching, work experience and job brokerage. The project was funded by the European Social Fund and covered the London boroughs of Lewisham, Wandsworth, Croydon and Merton.

Starship clients took part in workshops focusing on job search, interview support and writing CVs. An innovative aspect of the project was the continued support for six months once a young person had found a job or entered training.
