Adults, young people & children's services

Inspiring success for individuals and organisations

Connexions

Connexions services help all 13 to 19 year olds, and young people with LDD up to age 25, with their transitions through education and training to employment, and provide access to expert advice and support in any area of teenage life. Prospects’ qualified Personal Advisers (PAs) provide information about careers, jobs, education courses, volunteering and training opportunities, and help young people develop CVs and interview skills. PAs offer confidential support and practical help with issues like health, housing, bullying, money worries, and benefits. They advise on funding for education and, where specialist help is required, refer young people to appropriate support agencies.

Visit ‘Young people centres’ under the ‘Contact Us’ section of this website to find details of your local centre. For more information about Connexions you can also visit the national Connexions Direct website

Integrated Youth Services

Our services for young people also include the innovative Gloucestershire Integrated Youth Support Service. This ground breaking contract  integrates Connexions with all other youth support; Prospects leads and manages the services, reporting directly to Gloucestershire County Council’s Director of Children’s Services.

There are very strong partnership arrangements not only between Prospects and the County Council, but also with the myriad of agencies and organisations helping young people, including children’s centres, young parent groups, GPs, learning providers and voluntary agencies.

The services range from information, advice and guidance to specialist help for young people leaving care, young offenders and runaways, support with housing problems and substance abuse, job clubs, drop in centres and arts projects.

The outcomes speak for themselves, with outstanding reductions in NEET numbers, where the service is the top performer in the South West, and a grade of ‘excellent’ for the Youth Offending Service from the Youth Justice Board. Prospects has invested heavily to improve delivery centres in Gloucester, Cirencester, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham, involving young people in design and equipment, with highly positive feedback.

Children's Services Projects

“Starship” is aimed at 16 to 24 year olds not in education, employment or training (NEET) and those at risk. Offering individual life coaching, work experience and job brokerage, the project is funded by the European Social Fund through the Learning and Skills Council and covers the London boroughs of Lewisham, Wandsworth, Croydon and Merton.

Starship clients take part in workshops focusing on job search, interview support and writing CVs, and can access help with issues such as sexual health and drugs awareness.  In addition to help in finding suitable work and training, an innovative feature of the project is continued life coaching for six months after the young person has started a job.
