News Release: Kent County Council appoints Prospects to support childminders

24 March 2015

Prospects, an education, employment and training company, has been selected, by Kent County Council, subject to contract, to provide support services to childminders in the county from April 2015.

Prospects will provide Childminding Development Support Services for Kent County Council for the next three years through its specialist Early Years Services team. During this time Prospects will provide individually tailored support delivered through face to face visits, by telephone and through the use of digital media in order to help childminders improve the quality of education and care they provide to achieve improved outcomes for pre-school age children.

Prospects has been providing a similar service for Medway Council, in the South East of England, where the number of childminders attaining Good or Outstanding Ofsted inspection outcomes over the last three years has been increasing at twice the rate recorded nationally. Prospects provides support to pre-school settings for Southampton City Council and has recently secured a contract to provide early years services to support both childminders and group childcare settings on behalf of Hampshire County Council. In addition, Prospects delivers Early Years Inspections on behalf of Ofsted in the Midlands and the North of England.

John Theedom, Prospects Director of Early Years, said: “We are delighted Kent County Council has chosen us to support childminders to help improve education and care for young children in the county. Prospects has a wealth of experience and expertise in assisting childminders and pre-school settings improve outcomes for children, together with a strong track record of achievement. We look forward to working with childminders in Kent to support them in giving every child in their care the best possible start in life through their early years’ experiences.”

Roger Gough, Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Education said:

“We are looking forward to working with Prospects to ensure the provision of support for childminders in Kent. Childminders provide a vital service for children and their families and this contract will ensure that this service is of high quality.”
