North East SkillsThis week North East Skills takes place in Newcastle, one in a series of careers, training, education and skills events happening across the UK, organised by Prospects Events.

The show is free to attend and aimed at young people, aged 16 to 25, who need help deciding their next step.

They will be able to speak with recruiters and admissions teams to find out what skills and qualifications they need to begin a college course, apprenticeship, training, A-level studies, higher education, or find employment.

North East Skills is interactive, with attendees able to participate in work-based demonstrations and challenges. Activities at previous events have included designing new packaging, creating sugar flowers, a hair and beauty makeover, operating a robot, developing an online game and investigating a crime scene. These fun activities help young people learn about careers and develop new skills.

More than 60 employers, universities, colleges and training providers will attend, including British Engines, McDonald’s Restaurants (UK) Ltd, Rolls-Royce North East Training Centre, Gateshead College, New College Durham and NHS Health Education North East. Young people considering a career in the armed forces can speak to representatives from the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

Nina Hurst-Jones, Operations Director of Prospects Events, said: “North East Skills is a great opportunity for young people in the North East of England to learn about the education and careers options available to them. The Prospects Events team has been working hard to ensure the event is the best it can be. It will help strengthen Prospects’ reputation as a national leader in providing careers, training, education and skills events.”

North East Skills is on Wednesday 24 September and Thursday 25 September at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle.
