NCS lends a helping hand in Enfield
The National Careers Service was present at Enfield's BenCap "Go Live" event, which took place on 21st June at Green Towers Community Centre.
The event was aimed at local people affected by the recent change to the benefits system which potentially reduces monthly income and could force recipients to relocate or find an additional means of support. The Enfield Benefit Cap Taskforce met attendees to confirm their situation and refer them to other organisations, including Jobcentre Plus, John Wilkes Housing and the Citizen's Advice Bureau, who were all on hand to provide further information and advice.
Prospects team members Simi Mand and Julie Watts were also there to promote the National Careers Service, informing attendees of the contact number for booking appointments and demonstrating how the website could be used. Many customers had been advised to look for work as an additional source of income. They were seeking help with CVs and interview skills, information about training opportunities and funding advice.
Simi was pleased with the success of the event, commenting, "We were invited today to motivate attendees and show them how to look for an additional means of income. Many people we have spoken with were interested in the service and will be contacting us for help getting back into work or finding training to do so."
