28 April 2014 (Dubai, United Arab Emirates): Gabbitas Educational Consultants, the global experts in education, has announced the launch of its Middle East operations with the opening of a new office in Dubai to meet the growing demand for personalised educational services and advice on high quality educational options – independent schools, higher education and special needs - for families living and residing in the region. Gabbitas has also signed an agreement to manage four new British curriculum schools in Dubai backed by an investment of AED500 million by Mr Mohan Valrani.
Founded in the UK in 1873, Gabbitas provides a comprehensive range of educational services, from guardianship services to school consultancy. The launch event is being held at the British Embassy Dubai on Monday 28th April 2014, hosted by HM Consul General Edward Hobart.
Gabbitas is the UK’s premier independent education consultancy and will provide a comprehensive tailored school placement service in Dubai – with consultants advising on the best independent schools for children and offering a full guardianship service for overseas students at UK boarding schools.
Gabbitas will also provide expert guidance in the selection of and application to overseas universities and other services include bespoke packages for careers advice, guides to independent schools, and summer school programmes. In addition, a dedicated special educational needs consultancy is available.
Gabbitas will also work closely with Mr Mohan Valrani to create four new schools in Dubai – two primary and two secondary schools – which will open in phases through 2016-2019. All the schools will follow the British curriculum. The new school consultancy and management agreement was signed with Mr Mohan Valrani, a prominent Dubai resident and businessman who has been active in education in a private capacity for many years and who will invest up to AED500 million in the new schools.
Speaking about the Middle East launch, Mr Ian Hunt, Managing Director of Gabbitas Educational Consultants, commented: “Gabbitas has been working to help families access the best of British education for well over 100 years and we believe the time is right for us to open in the Middle East, where there is strong demand for more personalised and better informed services regarding schooling and higher education. We are especially excited to announce the signing of an agreement with Mr Mohan Valrani to create four new schools in Dubai, which will offer high quality British curriculum options for the local community.”
UK education is recognized and respected worldwide with four of the world’s top six universities based in the UK, offering world leading research and highly rated teaching. The UK’s boarding and independent schools (most boarding schools are independent), have on average 9.4 pupils to every one teacher, offering more individual pupil support, which is reflected in the results: 91% of students from UK independent schools go on to higher education (Independent Schools Council Census 2012).
Ian Hunt added: “Our Middle East team will be working with local Emirati and expatriate families, as well as company HR departments and relocation advisers, to help them access the most appropriate educational opportunities for their children in leading independent schools and higher education institutions. Parents greatly value the impartial, expert advice that our consultants provide and we also plan to run free seminars for parents and pupils in Dubai, to help them better understand the education landscape and opportunities.”
Her Majesty's Consul General to the UAE, Edward Hobart, said: "I'm delighted to see more British Education Service providers enter the UAE market. The decision by Gabbitas Educational Consultants to launch an office in Dubai demonstrates the tremendous local and regional demand for British education. The educational and cultural links between the UAE and UK are deep and thriving. The British Council is one of the leading providers of English language teaching in the UAE and several British universities have opened campuses. There are eight branch campuses of UK universities in the UAE and nearly 3,000 Emirati students are studying at UK higher education institutions. So it is against this healthy backdrop that Gabbitas, a successful British business established over a 100 years ago, expands its operations to the United Arab Emirates."
Notes to editors
Gabbitas was established in 1873 as an agency for the recruitment of schoolmasters to English public schools. Still a leader in educational recruitment, Gabbitas today offers a wealth of expertise on all aspects of education in the UK. The name derives from the founder, Mr John Rosewell Gabbitas, who ran the firm from the 1870s until his retirement in 1904. By 1923, when Gabbitas celebrated the 50th anniversary of its foundation, over 120,000 vacancies had been negotiated and no less than 50,000 parents had sought advice. Every year since 1924, Gabbitas has released a definitive independent schools guidebook. Gabbitas continues to publish school reference books, with The Independent School Guide and Schools For Special Needs being released annually. Gabbitas remains one of the most respected educational consultants in independent education, offering consultancy advice to institutions and investors seeking to build new schools, and parents looking for a suitable school or college for their child, as well as a comprehensive range of other services
