National Careers Service deliver fun and games
The Association of Colleges (AOC) is holding a series of exciting events across London colleges this summer. The National Careers Service (NCS) London, provided by Prospects, will be taking part.
The first two events took place at the College of North West London and West Thames College. NCS were invited to provide free careers advice for attendees seeking support.
A wide range of employers were available providing information about vacancies including Barclays, the British Army and Virgin Media.
Attendees at the West Thames event were able to present their CVs to Premier Inn and Tesco, to potentially secure an on the spot interview. Both events offered attendees hands on activities such as creating Costa smoothies!
Eight NCS advisers were on hand to deliver advice regarding CVs, training opportunities, study options and funding for courses. The advisers ran ‘Interview Skills’ seminars throughout both events.
The National Careers Service invited visitors to play their own version of the fairground game ‘hook a duck’. Each duck represented the dos and don’ts of careers advice. After the game each participant was rewarded with an NCS duck key ring! The game proved to be successful, attracting more than 700 visitors to the stand.
Simi Mand, Communications Coordinator, NCS London, said: “We are thrilled to be taking part in the Skills Show Experience events and are happy with the positive feedback for 'hook a duck'. We wanted to use a new method to showcase the service and show attendees how we can guide them through any stage of their career path.”
