National Careers Service South West launches LMI in a Box

Good quality Labour Market Information (LMI) can help a young person make career decisions and plan their future. In a rapidly changing local, UK and global jobs market young people can no longer solely rely upon the experiences and advice of their family and friends. 

LMI in relation to careers generally includes, information on general employment trends, data on what jobs exists, how many and in which sectors and job types, information on the demand for skill, the supply and where current and future skills gaps and shortages might exist and what job progression opportunities are available. 

Whilst there is a wide range of sources of LMI, often it is not designed to be used by young people, or those advising and guiding them, nor is it often for their local area. Therefore, the National Careers Service have been working hard over the summer to produce our one-stop resource for LMI here in the South West. 

 

LMI in a Box is a one-stop resource consisting of digital resources and LMI products for careers advisers, teaching staff or anyone working with young people and is available free of charge. 

‘LMI in a Box’ launches on 25 September 2017, in time for the new 2017/18 academic year and forms part of the National Careers Service South West Inspiration Plan activities. 
 

 Cathie Kessell, Senior Partnership Manager for the National Careers Service in the South West said: “LMI in a Box starts to address the need for simplified, localised LMI. The resources will support both advisers and other teaching staffing in their careers information and advice work with young people and adults. The resources will be informative and a ‘go-to’ reference for Labour Market Information here in the South West”.
