Careers and Enterprise Day
Prospects Northamptonshire recently hosted a Careers and Enterprise Day at Sir Christopher Hatton Academy in Wellingborough. More than 500 year 8, 9 & 10 students attended the event, which was designed to help them develop the necessary employability knowledge and skills to help them progress and give them an insight into the types of work open to them in the future.
Students attended a “carousel of workshops” including mock interviews, interview skills and wages & salaries. They also had the opportunity to consider how their skills and qualities matched to different career options. Student feedback showed an overall level of satisfaction over 75%, with most students commenting that they enjoyed the event and found it useful.
The event, purchased by the school is one of a range of services Prospects Northamptonshire sell into schools in addition to delivering the Young People’s Support contract on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council.
Employers holding the Mock Interviews, at which the students benefited from practicing their interview skills and having the opportunity to receive feedback, said: “Students were interested in the sessions and accepted constructive criticism, suggestions and praise very well.”
All the employers who took part in the event said that it was well organised and that they would be willing to take part in similar events in the future.
