Head of the Civil Service visits 3BM
On 29th November Sir Bob Kerslake, Head of the Civil Service, visited 3BM, the employee-owned mutual in which Prospects is a partner, to meet the team and hear about their experiences of spinning out from local authorities to set up a mutual. Vincent McDonnell, Prospects' Managing Director, also attended and spoke about the creation of 3BM from the commercial partner's point of view.
3BM delivers services such as financial management, IT, and building development to schools, allowing them to focus on education.
Sir Bob had the opportunity to hear from staff about their experiences and find out about the Cabinet Office Mutuals Support Programme, which helped 3BM with financial resources and advice.
3BM is already proving to be a successful, growing business, having won 10 new contracts in the first six months of operating as a mutual.
On his blog, Sir Bob said: "In short, 3BM's mutual journey has got off to a great start, and I look forward to following its progress. Perhaps the key benefit of the mutual model is that it enables entrepreneurial public sector staff to combine their passion for public service with more scope to improve delivery. It was fascinating to learn more about the Programme first-hand from the people who work on the front line — four days later and I still feel buoyed by their optimism."
