Home win for Sutton United in business awards
A gala event, on Thursday 14th November, celebrated the winners of the second annual Sutton Business Awards, organised by Prospects Business Support in association with main sponsor Handelsbanken.
Named as Sutton Business of the Year — an award chosen by the judging panel from among the winners of the other eight categories — was Sutton United FC which also won the Commitment to the Community Award.
Director of the club, Adrian Barry, said, "This accolade gives us a huge fillip to take Sutton United into the next era. We are more than just a football club. Our volunteers have enormous energy and reach out to the entire community. We want to become the fulcrum of sport and leisure in Sutton." Presenting the award, Hazel Hellier, manager of the local branch of Handelsbanken, praised the club for "touching many lives young and old."
The awards recognised large and small businesses across the borough and covered newcomers and well established firms. Before an audience of over 130 guests at the Croydon Hilton Hotel, the glittering, Oscar-style award ceremony was hosted by Alan Dedicoat, known to millions of TV viewers as the voice of the National Lottery Draw and Strictly Come Dancing.
The 100 local companies which entered this year's awards were whittled down to 27 contestants battling it out in eight categories. Introducing the event, Rose Saunders, Prospects Head of Business Support, said the number and variety of the entrants "was a true testament to the sustainability of business in Sutton."

The event raised £1,020.00 for the Mayor's chosen charity, Sutton Mental Health Foundation www.smhf.org.uk.
