National Careers Service advisors visit Brent
Prospects' National Careers Service advisers Jill Monro and Freda Obado recently took part in a local Jobs Fair at the new Brent Civic Centre in London. The event was organised by Brent Active Citizens, an organisation which develops, supports and promotes volunteering in and around the local area. It works closely with local charities and community groups to determine and advertise the current opportunities available.
Jill explained, "Not only was this a great chance for the National Careers Service to provide support, information, careers and skills advice to people living in the London Borough of Brent, it also gave us the opportunity to visit the new community civic centre that stands in the shadow of Wembley stadium.
"The fair was held to support customers looking for a career change, as well as those eager for employment or voluntary opportunities. Local employers and businesses were on hand to promote their current vacancies, while local colleges such as BACES (Brent Adult Community Education Service) and the College of North West London provided information about full and part-time courses available.
"The fair was a successful local event and we were overwhelmed with customers seeking information, careers advice and CV support. We were able to speak at length with over 60 customers and all of the marketing materials were snapped up! It was a very busy and positive day; I am confident we offered attendees the help needed to get them back to work."
