Eyes down for a new job

12 September 2016

On Monday 12 September, jobseekers in Taunton attended a Job Fair at Mecca Bingo. More than 270 visitors attended the Job Fair, organised by JobCentre Plus and supported by Prospects.

27 employers were at the fair, including Greggs, Argos, Premier Inn, Toby Carvery, Somerset Care, Care Wyvern, Total Security, Opportunity Plus, Army Recruitment, Butlins and Lifeways.

Prospects, who run the Work Programme for the Department of Work & Pensions in the region, made sure all the people they help and support in Somerset attended the event.

Tim Curtis, who manages the Prospects Taunton delivery office, commented: “Meeting employers and talking to them about the jobs they have on offer is really important. It sounds obvious, but for many people who have been out of work for an extended period it is a big deal, something that can make or break their confidence. This job fair was the perfect environment as the employers were enthusiastic and keen to meet visitors. As a result, we’ve got our fingers crossed for a positive outcome for a couple of people we support who met employers at the fair.”
