#GCSEResultsDay - What’s next for you?

23 August 2016

The long, care free summer is about to end for thousands of young people this week, with GCSE results announced on Thursday 25 August. For many those long awaited results will not be as expected. Whether your results are better or worse than you anticipated, you may now be thinking about changing the plans you made for your future. If you are, Prospects is a great place to get help, with over 20 years’ experience of supporting young people make the transition from education into employment.

This week we focus on stories of some of the young people we supported around the country last year. The first is Abid, who received free impartial advice and support from Bradford Connexions.

Abid was 17 when he met his Prospects personal adviser at Bradford Connexions. Abid went to school in Bradford taking GCSE and BTEC qualifications in 2015. These went well, but Abid was very disappointed with his English result. He spoke to a personal adviser at Connexions Bradford and as a result he decided to go to college to gain more qualifications.

However, college wasn’t what Abid hoped it would be so he came back to see his personal adviser for further support. Together they considered apprenticeships as Abid would still be able to continue his studies but receive hands-on experience at the same time. He decided that a business administration apprenticeship would be wide reaching and form a good basis for a variety of different careers.

Abid applied and successful gained an apprenticeship with Prospects in November 2015. He has now almost completed his course plus successfully passed functional skills in English through Shipley College. Abid is now looking for an advanced level apprenticeship as well as applying for employment in the Civil Service.

Like Abid, you may not know about all the different options so visiting the drop-in sessions in Bradford and Keighley can help. They take place Thursday afternoon, 1.00pm until 4.00pm at Culture Fusion, 125 Thornton Road, Bradford, BD1 2EP and

Friday 26 August, 11.00am until 2.00pm at Keighley Connexions Centre, Town Hall, Bow Street, BD21 3PA. You don’t need an appointment, but if you can’t make it you can also contact a personal adviser online by visiting or calling 01274 377800.
