Connexions boosts confidence of Keighley women
A traditional Korean martial art is to be used to help boost the confidence of young women in Keighley, West Yorkshire; the eight week taekwondo course is aimed at 16 to 19 year olds, currently unemployed or not in education.
To get involved, they must first attend an information session at Keighley Connexions Centre; the actual course begins on August 27. Subsequent sessions will be held on Tuesdays from 3pm to 5pm.
It will be run by Prospects personal advisor Lisa Winteridge, who is also the chief instructor and founder of the Strike Taekwondo group, based in South Street, Keighley.
"This is a great opportunity for local youngsters," Lisa said about the initiative. "It will develop confidence, self-esteem and fitness, and will also provide an opportunity to make new friends and have fun learning a traditional martial art and Olympic sport. The course is free — travel expenses and refreshments are all included. Participants will also have the opportunity to become Strike Taekwondo Academy students."
