Local MP joins jobseekers in Taunton
This Friday Rebecca Pow, MP for Taunton Deane, will be visiting Prospects Taunton delivery office to meet local constituents who are long term unemployed. The jobseekers are all supported by Prospects, the employment, education and skills company delivering the government’s Work Programme in the South West. The Work Programme supports people who have been unemployed for around two years and face a number of barriers to employment including poor qualification and skills.
Rebecca visited Prospects a number of times during her campaign. On Friday, she will be meeting jobseekers from across the county who are interested in care, health, administrative and maintenance roles with well-known local employer, Somerset Care.
Meeting and hearing from employers is vital when looking for work. Direct contact between employers and people who are long term unemployed helps build connections, and enables jobseekers to understand what an employer is seeking, understand the different roles and responsibilities vacancies offer and put themselves forward face to face. For employers it is equally important to meet work ready candidates who are keen to take on roles in their sector.
