Youth Support Team Receive Charter Status
Trying to get good work experience can be a challenge for young people. Either they cannot get a placement or sometimes the actual experience provided is decidedly lacklustre. The Gloucestershire Youth Support Team (YST) have been recently assessed by The Stroud District Council/Work Experience Charter to ensure young people in the area have access to great work experience opportunities.
As part of the wider Skills for Stroud initiative, YST have championed work experience with young people and have been awarded full Charter Status for their work. The Charter Award recognises the hard work YST, run by Prospects, the education, employment and skills company, has put into supporting young people across the county.
The initiatives run by the YST team have included Work it Out, a project for care leavers that has successfully run for more than three years, Spied, a newsletter covering local jobs, working with young people to raise their aspirations through the ASCENT – a programme providing young people with intensive support to build their confidence, resilience and employability, developing close local links with employers and developing volunteering groups with local voluntary organisations.
For those young people on ASCENT, the team helped to secure employment, including apprenticeships, for 51 young people and 112 have moved into education or training, including traineeships, in the local area.
Having now been awarded full Charter Status, the team are looking at new at innovative ways to continually improve the service they offer. To find out more about the services the YST team provide young people across Gloucestershire please visit https://youthsupportteam.co.uk/.
