Wolverhampton Health and Wellbeing Week
Young people in Wolverhampton visited the Connexions centre in January for a 'Health and Wellbeing Week', when a range of services in the city came together to promote healthy lifestyles. Organisations taking part included Base 25 counselling, Think sexual health services, Blakenhall Community and Healthy Living Centre, SUBS young person's drug and alcohol team and the NHS healthy living team.
The Connexions service, delivered by Prospects in Wolverhampton, organised the highly successful event which attracted 82 young people. Visitors spoke to the health professionals and were treated to gift bags containing health, relaxation and beauty items such as porridge, fruit, sports socks, ear phones, herbal tea and essential oils face masks.
Some worked with Personal Advisers to complete 'DUST' life style assessments examining their drug and alcohol usage and signed up to local quit smoking campaigns. "I am going to do it!" said 17 year old Dontay, and one young mother, Ann Marie, said, "I am going to go for the three year contraception as I don’t want to get pregnant again."
