Inside Prospects: Prospects Interchange

26 February 2013

What is Prospects Interchange and what does it aim to do?

Prospects Interchange replaced FEdS last year, as Prospects' network membership organisation linking business with education. Already membership has grown to over 70, comprising senior figures from blue-chip companies, employers, small and specialist organisations in the learning and skills domain, government agencies and educational institutions. Current members include BBC, BP, BT, City and Guilds, IBM, Microsoft, Rolls Royce and Unilever.

Prospects Interchange collaborates closely with all its members; its main objectives are:

  • developing learning and skills in a long-term and sustainable way
  • encouraging members to have a say in education issues by providing a supportive and neutral forum for critical debate, new ideas and solutions.

What does it offer its members?

Prospects Interchange offers a free monthly information bulletin to keep members up-to-date with education, employment and training news.

A programme of meetings and events is organised for members. The most recent round table took place in December 2012, at the Campaign for Learning headquarters in London. Mark Corney, Policy Adviser for the Campaign, provided the audience with in-depth analysis of the Autumn Statement and its implications for education, skills and employment. This was followed by a seminar discussing the positions of the three main political parties in these areas, and how they might affect the political landscape for the May 2015 election.

How is Prospects Interchange different from FEdS?

FEdS had been part of the Prospects Group since 2008 as a membership subscription organisation, but as budgets became tighter, organisations became more reluctant to commit. Prospects Interchange is operating with free membership, to attract a wider spectrum of members.
