Skills North West inspiring the region's young NEET
Recent figures released by the Office for National Statistics reveal that unemployment in the North West increased by 2,000 in the last three months of 2012, reaching 295,000, meaning that between October and December, the regional unemployment rate reached 8.5 per cent, despite national unemployment falling by 14,000 in the same period.
Youth unemployment is a particular concern in the North West. In Greater Manchester, for example, the number of JSA claimants aged 16–24 has increased month on month, despite the UK figure falling year-on-year. Urgent action is needed to help young jobseekers in the region.
Prospects Events is running Skills North West, which will, we hope, give young local people a more positive outlook on their future careers. The free event aims to support young people aged 15–24 by inspiring, motivating and helping to equip them with the skills to pursue their chosen careers, whatever their dreams or ambitions. It will take place at EventCity in the Trafford Centre on 6th – 7th March 2013. It is open to all young people, whether at school or college, looking for or starting work, their family members and teachers.
Over 60 organisations will be exhibiting, giving young people a chance to try out new skills and see exciting skills demonstrations. If you have ever wanted to work in beauty therapy, discover more about a potential career in the motor industry, or find out more about a wide range of professions, Skills North West is for you.
