National Careers Service team 'go west' (in London!) to help jobseekers
The National Careers Service (NCS) was recently part of Hammersmith & Fulham's 'Jobs and Opportunities Event', which took place last week at Queens Park Rangers' Stadium on 8th August.
The day was held to provide both careers advice and employment opportunities. Other organisations present included Jobcentre Plus, Wilkinson and The Prince's Trust. Visitors were invited to discuss current vacancies or apprenticeships with employers before learning how to apply for positions.
NCS London advisers Ian Cam, Freda Obado and Jill Monro provided face to face careers advice for customers by appointment. Several attendees brought their CVs to be checked and this was done on the spot. Advisers ran CV Development and Interview Skills workshops throughout the day, which enabled attendees to share ideas and experiences as well as gain information.
NCS London team members Julie Watts and Rebecca Hafner were on hand to provide information about NCS and how it can be accessed. The telephone and web channels were both explained to customers; there were demonstrations of the website and its features such as the CV builder.
The event proved an excellent opportunity for the National Careers Service to liaise with other organisations and to direct customers to relevant stands. Rebecca Hafner noted that the day was a success for the service and commented, "We enjoy attending smaller local events as they are usually very popular; customers tend to feel less intimidated and are more likely to approach us for help. We can build links with other organisations or companies currently recruiting, to help our customers apply for and, we hope, fill those positions."
