Celebrating local business success at the Bromley Business Awards

18 June 2015

Small businesses are at the heart of Britain, powering the economic recovery, employing more than half of all private sector workers and contributing 50 per cent of UK GDP*. To celebrate their contribution and place at the centre of business the Bromley Business Awards are open for nominations, until 31 July.

If you work in, or with, an small or medium sized enterprise (SME) in the London Borough of Bromley, say an optician in Orpington, a baker in Biggin Hill or a printer in Penge and you think they have something to celebrate nominate them for the Bromley Business Awards.

More than 200 businesses have taken part in the awards since their inception and they are growing year on year, with more than 50 entrants already registered for 2015. The awards take place on 15 October at The Warren and celebrate excellence in all aspects of business development and customer focus, organisations that put their employees at the heart of their success, innovation and growth, green credentials, commitment to the local community and the well-being of the borough and our rising stars. All the nominees will be able to compete for the coveted Best Small Business or Best Medium Sized Business awards before the final prestigious Business of the Year award is presented.

Businesses that enter find the process is very beneficial. By taking a step back from the daily routine and celebrating their staff, thanking their customers and stakeholders they gain recognition across the borough and acknowledge their own achievements. But finding the time and filling in the paperwork can be a daunting task. This year to make it easier anyone interested in nominating a business or individual can join the What Makes a Winner? workshop hosted by Prospects, a dynamic and enterprising organisation providing a wide range of education, employment and skills services in the UK and internationally, and itself, a Bromley business success story. The free workshop takes place on Thursday 25 June at Prospects House in the heart of Bromley, to book your place call Clare Stepney on 020 8315 1020.

Clare Stepney, organiser of the Business Awards for Prospects when asked why businesses should put themselves forward said: “Many businesses in Bromley have faced difficult trading conditions making it harder for them to reward staff and customers. By entering the Bromley Business Awards business owners can say thank you to their staff and customers.”

Recognising the importance of businesses to the local economy Bromley Council have pledged their support alongside The Warren to raise the profile of the awards and celebrating local success.

The awards, which are free to enter, are judged by a panel of local business leaders including Jane Knight, the energetic business coach and founder of Successful Mums and mentor Ivan Reffell owner of The Best of Bromley and previous winner of the Commitment to the Community Award.

All businesses selected for the finals will receive business mentoring and support, as well as the chance to network with the judges and share best practice with other nominees.
