13 students in Leicestershire complete MOTEV8 programme
13 students from Guthlaxton College in Leicestershire recently completed the MOTEV8 programme, run by Prospects Advisers. Funded by the European Social Fund, the programme helps young people improve their self-confidence, team building and communication skills and explore their post 16 education and career options.
Yvonne Inkpen and Julie Hilliam, Personal Advisers based in Leicestershire, delivered the programme, which ran every Tuesday afternoon for six weeks. Participants visited employers and training providers, including Leicester College where they were given a tour and made bread in the bakery department, and Twycross Zoo where they learnt about job opportunities beyond working with animals and developing skills.
At the end of the programme participants were asked for feedback, which was overwhelmingly positive. Many said they wanted the course to continue so they could develop their skills further.
On Friday 8 May the students gave three presentations at a celebration event, showcasing what they had gained from the programme, to staff and students at Guthlaxton College, including Mrs Cox, Head Teacher; Mrs Hadkiss, Head of Year 10; Mrs Crowdell, School Mentor; Jess Taylor, MOTEV8 administrator, and Barbara Beyst, Prospects Area Manager. Mrs Cox presented the students with a certificate, team photograph and Prospects pen, followed by a lunch made by the college’s catering department.
Sue Tombs, Head of Operations for Leicestershire, said: “Well done to all students involved. MOTEV8 helps local young people gain the confidence and skills they need to make informed decisions about their future. Thank you to Yvonne and Julie for delivering this fantastic course. Prospects does a lot of work supporting young people in Leicestershire, through targeted support and by providing information advice and guidance.”
