Prospects awarded National Citizen Service for South Gloucestershire
Prospects was recently awarded a sub-contract to provide the National Citizen Service (NCS) in South Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire Youth Support and South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre, both parts of the Prospects Group, are working together to deliver NCS this summer to 195 young people./p>
NCS is an intensive, three-part programme for young people aged 16 to 17 during their holidays. It brings together young people from different backgrounds to work on a community project, promoting a more cohesive, responsible and engaged society. Participants will take on new challenges, develop their leadership and team skills, and build their confidence. The four week programme also helps young people gain experiences valued by employers and educational institutions.
The programme has four start dates, 20 and 29 July and 3 and 20 August. Colleagues are currently visiting local schools encouraging young people to take part. Already more than 500 young people have expressed interest in joining the programme.
The programme involves:
A week away from home at an outdoor centre
- Developing new skills and meeting new people
- A week away in a university/community setting to experience living together with your team
- A unique experience to design your own project within your community
- Gaining a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.
Young people aged 16-17 in South Gloucestershire interested in joining the programme should email South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre. Anyone interested in working on the programme should email Lynne Speak (must be aged 18 plus).
