The National Careers Service recently attended the popular Sunemployment Roadshow in London, which took place on 5th July at Glaziers Hall. Over 1,600 people attended the final day of the roadshow, causing it to remain open an additional two hours later than planned.

As with last year's highly successful roadshow, the aim was to secure interviews or jobs for as many attendees as possible. Well-known companies including Ann Summers, Network Rail and Sainsbury's were present to meet with potential candidates and accept applications or CVs.

National Careers Service London staff members Simi Mand, Laurie McLoughlin and Selina Boshorin were on hand to signpost customers towards accessing free careers advice over the telephone, web and face to face.

In addition to the exhibition area, a Q&A advice session was held, allowing attendees to question an expert panel including Tesco's HR Director Judith Nelson, politician Vince Cable and television presenter and Sun columnist Jeremy Kyle. Also seated on the panel was National Careers Service adviser Laurie McLoughlin, who successfully fielded questions related to finding funding, retraining and making the leap back into employment. Following the panel session, Laurie continued to answer queries from attendees and was pleased with the outcome of the event. She said, ‘I am really happy with the number of people keen to speak with me today and do what they can to get back into work. I enjoy being part of the Sunemployment event and offering our service to those who need it’.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson commented, ‘Whether you are looking to get a foot on the ladder or an experienced worker after a new opportunity, the Sunemployment roadshow is there to help. My number one aim is to create more jobs for Londoners and I'm delighted to have the Sun alongside me’.
