EOA Conference and Baxendale Awards
Prospects Events team organised the Employee Ownership Association (EOA) 2014 Annual Conference.
Sponsored by ARUP and Childbase, the conference was held at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham on Tuesday 18 November. 3BM, part of the Prospects Group, was highly commended at the Baxendale Awards Dinner, which took place on the previous evening at the same venue.
The conference highlighted the benefits of being an employee owned organisation, and noted that Prospects is one of the first and largest public service mutual companies. 500 delegates attended the conference, including long standing employee owners, new members and those considering becoming employee owned. Keynote speakers for the conference were Iain Hasdell, Chief Executive of EOA, Mike Thompson, Chief Executive of Childbase and John Lupton, Chief Executive of Scott & Fyfe. Patrick Burns, Director of Mutuals Development at Prospects chaired a seminar entitled ‘The complete guide to establishing an employee owned, public service spin out’.
At the Baxendale Awards, the UK’s only dedicated celebration of excellence in employee ownership, 3BM, the education support services mutual, was highly commended in the Public Service Mutual of the Year category. The category, endorsed by the Cabinet Office, celebrates groups of employees who have 'spun out' of the public sector into employee-led mutual organisations and are showing progress in transforming services to improve outcomes for their users.
3BM is the first employee led mutual joint venture to spin out from local government and Prospects is their independent sector partner. This pioneering model for delivering better and more cost-effective public services combines the experience and local knowledge of council staff with a private sector business ethic. 3BM delivers services such as financial management, IT and building development to schools, allowing them to focus on education.
Andy Rennison, Managing Director of 3BM, said:
“We are delighted to have been awarded Highly Commended in this key category. Since we became a mutual our customers have continued to receive excellent service – it’s one of the things they comment on and appreciate. However for colleagues, the change has meant they feel empowered and understand the important role they play in determining the future of our organisation. We are proud to be a mutual and fly the flag for employee ownership.”
Vincent McDonnell, Managing Director of Prospects, said:
“It’s fantastic to see 3BM being highly commended for their hard work since ‘spinning out’. In the first year of operation, they have already achieved so much; the business has grown and gained new customers. They greatly deserve this recognition and praise. We look forward to supporting 3BM as they continue to develop.”
