Prospects National Careers Service helps adults into work
Prospects National Careers Service team held a successful 'Adult Skills' event in West London on 14th March. Attendees were invited to meet employers with real jobs, training organisations with opportunities, and expert staff offering free and professional advice.
Companies including British Gas, Travelodge and Domino's Pizza were present, as well as organisations such as the Army and Royal Air Force. Customers were informed of available positions and how they could apply.
Seventeen National Careers Service advisers were on hand to provide one-to-one sessions for participants, offering help with CV preparation and advice on training and career options; this service proved highly popular. Adviser, Laurie McLoughlin, commented, "The volume of customers wanting to meet National Careers Service advisers clearly shows the necessity and importance of our service; we were delighted to provide much-needed support and motivation for so many people."
Several of the advisers presented seminars throughout the day on topics including CV writing, interview skills and job hunting on the Web. These allowed customers to share their ideas and experiences, and receive valuable information and practical tips from a qualified professional.
Since its launch a year ago, the National Careers Service has held several popular public events. Adult Skills continued this success, with over 1500 visitors. The Regional Manager for London, Janice Pigott, was thrilled with the outcome, commenting, "Events such as Adult Skills allow us to promote the service in a different way and reach customers unfamiliar with the National Careers Service. I am extremely pleased with the impact this event has made on the public and hope it inspires them to persevere with their job search or career path. It has been fantastic way to mark the anniversary of the service."
