Gabbitas at China Britain Business Conference in Westminster

Gabbitas' International Business Development and Client Relationship Manager, Jennifer Britton, recently attended the China Britain Business Conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre to learn about how business between the two countries is growing.

Key speakers were Prime Minister, David Cameron, the Chinese Ambassador and the President of Jaguar LandRover; themes discussed included urbanisation in China and the Chinese consumer. With two offices in China and a third opening later this year, Gabbitas has big plans in China, so it was very useful to attend the event.

Amazing facts that came out of the discussions included:

  • The average female in China now spends over seven hours a day online shopping and she takes on average two weeks to decide on the product she is going to buy before making the purchase
  • The top 50 Chinese brands have yet to become international, but make millions each year from the vast spending of Chinese consumers, more than some well-known brands with outlets all over the world
  • More and more Chinese adults are paying for learning English and travelling abroad, spending on average £3500 when on holiday!

Needless to say, there are huge cultural differences between China and the UK and to succeed in business, a certain etiquette has to be maintained. It can often take years to build up strong bonds with Chinese customers, and win their trust and respect, but this is the way to success. Chinese people are willing to pay for the best, and interested in British heritage, which gives the Gabbitas brand particular significance there.
