Rise in employment is good news says Prospects
Latest labour market statistics, published today by the Office for National Statistics, show that unemployment has fallen to 6% - down from 7.6% a year earlier. During July to September 2014, 73% of people who are working age were in employment. A year earlier the figure was 71.6%. The latest statistics show that employment has continued to rise, as has been the trend since late 2011.
Such positive figures show how the hard work of jobseekers and their employment support advisers is really paying off. As a lead provider of employment support, Prospects helps people find and stay in work through quality support to both jobseekers and local employers.
Prospects, the education, employment and training company, uses a variety of methods to support local jobseekers in their journey into employment. From skills training in IT, English and Maths to confidence building and specialist support, tailored to each jobseeker’s individual requirements. A key part of this support is quality work experience opportunities which can help people develop new skills, add to their CV and build confidence in their own abilities. It also helps people decide what is right for them as much as allowing employers see if people are the right fit for a job. Many work experience opportunities lead on to a job offer with that employer, if an opportunity opens up.
Brenda Cabras, Prospects Director of Employment and Training, said:
“These figures demonstrate that some of the innovative approaches to helping jobseekers find work are paying off. On behalf of government and local authorities we work with the long term unemployed to help them overcome barriers they face in finding sustainable employment. It’s good news that employment is back to pre-recession levels with a record 30.8 million people in work. We look forward to supporting more people with personalised careers advice to help them on their way to sustainable and rewarding careers.”
