Work Programme customers in Minehead

Six Work Programme customers, supported by Prospects, recently helped the Minehead Development Trust create a new community garden, gaining employability skills and work experience.

Over the five days the Work Programme customers had a tutor who oversaw their work and taught them relevant skills, including using hand tools and complying with health & safety requirements. They completed the work on time. On the last day a representative from Wessex Water presented a cheque to Councillor Maureen Smith and the group for winning the Wessex Water Sustainable Watermark Award. This will enable the Trust to install a water harvesting system on the site.

The Minehead Development Trust redeveloped the site, working with the local community to create a garden for visitors to reflect on, in tranquillity. The redevelopment involved extensive surveys, clearing invasive ground clover, creating pathways and planting.

Prospects will provide ongoing support by creating a volunteer group for local Work Programme customers.
