Prospects, the education, employment and training company, has been named as one of the first organisations to achieve validation from the Quality in Careers Standard.Prospects’ Quality Award in careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG), which has been awarded to schools, academies, colleges and other educational institutions since 1994, has been validated to meet the standard expected by the Quality in Careers Consortium, set up to oversee CEIAG quality awards in England.
Since the Education Act 2011 placed a statutory duty on schools to ‘secure independent careers guidance’ for all of their students, the Quality in Careers Standard is becoming widely recognised. More than 1,100 schools and colleges are already voluntarily working towards or hold a dedicated CEIAG quality award. Furthermore, earlier this year recommendations from the House of Commons Education Select Committee inquiry into careers advice said all schools should be required to work towards a dedicated CEIAG Award which is nationally validated by Quality in Careers Standard.
As the largest provider of careers information, advice and guidance in the UK Prospects, is well placed to offer its Quality Award in CEIAG. To achieve the validation from the Quality in Careers Standard, Prospects staff presented to a panel and were subjected to probing questions on all aspects of their submission. The Prospects’ Quality Award in CEIAG was the first to reach this final stage and the success of the application was confirmed on the day, but the news was embargoed until other organisations had completed the process. At the conclusion of the first set of panels, 5 CEIAG quality awards have now achieved the Quality in Careers Standard. The validation will last for three years.
Sue Mattock, Prospects Chair of the Quality Award Accreditation Board, said:
“We are delighted to be one of the first organisations to achieve the Quality in Careers Standard and meet the high criteria required of this Standard. As the UK’s largest provider of careers information, advice and guidance, we know the importance of quality careers support. We have been providing our quality award for almost 20 years and in this time we have seen many examples of excellence in guidance for young people. We work with many fantastic educational institutions which provide quality careers information, advice and guidance which changes and improves the lives of their students. However, the nature of our award is to encourage CEIAG providers to strive even more and achieve the gold standard. We plan to begin offering the award in other areas of the UK and we encourage any careers coordinators who want to demonstrate the quality and value of their guidance to get in touch and find out about Prospects Quality Award in CEIAG for their institution.”
Paul Chubb, Project Leader for Quality in Careers Standard, said:
“Congratulations to Prospects on achieving the Standard. The Quality in Careers Standard is a real beacon of hope for every young person. Award providers which demonstrate they meet our 16 national validation criteria of the Standard are assuring young people and their families that where their school or college holds a nationally validated award, such as the Prospects’ award, it has in place the essential foundations which CEIAG needs to prepare young people to make best use of the careers guidance they will receive.”
Prospects also delivers face to face careers advice in London, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber on behalf of National Careers Service.
