In the past 12 months, over 5,000 young people have been helped to engage in education, employment and training through careers information, advice and guidance delivered by Prospects, the education, employment, training, skills and care company on behalf of Northamptonshire County Council. On April 7, Prospects celebrated their first year in Northamptonshire at the Wellingborough drop-in shop Nick Bell Chief Executive of Prospects attended along with David Cook, Chief Executive of Kettering Borough Council and Sarah Baxter, Director of Sales and Marketing from Bedford College.

Nick Bell highlighted some of the achievements of the first year that included:

A seamless transfer of services from the previous provider and no break in delivery for young people

Set up of two new dedicated centres for young people in Sheep Street, Northampton and Silver Street, Wellingborough

Working with 5,000 young people in education and those not in education, employment or training (NEET)

Improving the performance on the new national NEET and Not Known measure by a full percentage point achieving some of the lowest Not Known levels ever attained for Northamptonshire.

One other A VIP guest at the birthday party was a young person who the Prospects drop-in shop team has helped phase with his family, education and the Law. For a time he was very unsettled and living in temporary accommodation away from his family and friends. Prospects has sign-posted him to local partners who have helped with his financial and housing difficulties and is continuing to work with him to help him take part in education, employment and training. He has taken part in a number of activities to help improve his employability skills as well as building his confidence and communication skills.

During his time working with his adviser, he has regularly attended appointments, been given specialist help during times of urgent need and expressed how grateful he is for the support Prospects has provided. Thanks to the support from his Prospects Adviser, he is now settled in a new flat in Wellingborough, is receiving the correct benefits and is now considering his training options.

Nick Bell said: “We are delighted to be celebrating a year here in Northamptonshire. I am always humbled when I meet some of the young people we support who have overcome significant challenges, and I’m pleased to hear how well they are now doing with our support.”
