Prospects are hosting a huge job fest in London to improve work and employment outcomes for lower-earning residents in the City.
625,000 Londoners are facing an economic crisis which has overtaken unemployment, and that’s ‘in-work’ poverty. More and more workers are earning below £15,000 due to low wage jobs, zero hours contracts and part-time positions, putting them below the London Living Wage. This can have a dramatic effect on their financial security and well-being.
Prospects’ ‘Employment Plus Job Fest’ is taking place on Friday 4 August 10am – 4pm at Inspire, The Crypt, St. Peter’s Church, Liverpool Grove, Walworth, London, SE17 2HH.
The event is specifically aimed at those people currently working in low paid employment but wanting to earn more, and with guaranteed interviews from a whole range of top London employers it’s not to be missed.
Employers with current vacancies who will be attending the job fest include; Dunelm, Amey, Tesco, Army, Travelodge, Admiral Casino, Dwell, Burger Shack, Honest Burger, Amazon Warehouse jobs, Perfume Shop, Tower Hamlets Pathways, New Regeneration, and Co-op.
Prospects colleagues will also be on hand throughout the day to encourage eligible clients to sign up to the Employment Plus programme which supports people with up-skilling and training in order to progress their careers and increase their wage-earning potential.
Employment Plus is an exciting London based, government funded initiative, which is focused on an individual’s workplace, their role, and how they can present themselves to senior colleagues as a potential candidate for higher pay or improved qualifications.
This is achieved by short courses to help with interviews, support ensuring a person has the skills in place to apply for promotion or transfer, basic skills training so they can write reports or use computers with ease and enrolment on relevant vocational courses.
Eligibility for the Employment Plus programme includes:
- UK address and the right to work in the EU
- Having worked for at least four months earning less than £307 per week (10% below the London Living Wage determined by the Skills Funding Agency as under-employed / in-work poverty)
- Be able to provide evidence of employment (e.g. wage slips)
- Be an individual who would like to progress within their chosen career and requires development to access potentially new opportunities
The programme is open to people of all ages and supports all, but is particularly focused on lone parents, low-earning parents, the Black, Asian and minority ethnic community and those with disabilities.
The programme is running from now until July 2018.
