It’s not Blue Monday thanks to National Careers Service
Monday (16 January) was Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year, according to Dr Cliff Arnall. Dr Arnall worked this out by creating a formula taking into account factors like; the weather, debts, bills, the number of days since Christmas, unsuccessful New Year’s resolutions and when motivation is at its lowest.

For the last six years community organisations in Bristol, including the National Careers Service which Prospects delivers, have hosted an event to help support, encourage, and brighten the lives of local residents. This year the Blue Monday event took place at Bristol’s The Galleries shopping centre. There were four themes: debt and money, housing and energy efficiency, employment and training; and health and wellbeing. The free event featured professionals on hand to give expert advice. In addition to the National Careers Service, other community organisations and charities including Pennywise, Shelter, Talking Money, 1625 Independent People, Citizens Advice Bristol took part.

Rachael Dale Marketing Manager for National Careers Service said: “Blue Monday was an excellent opportunity for us to network with different organisations across the city and also raise awareness of our service and how we can work together to help the people of Bristol. On the day we saw a variety of people and were able to help customers take the next steps in achieving a new career this year.”

John Jefferies, Delivery Team Leader for the North, was also on the organisers panel for the event and helped co-ordinate on the day, along with a team of our advisers.

The National Careers Service gave advice on finding employment, information on local drop in centres, creating and developing CVs and interview techniques. Again this year, colleagues proved that Blue Monday did not have to get anyone down.
