Inspiring the young people of Brent and Harrow
Prospects works extensively with young people across London, providing careers services and help to find jobs, apprenticeships or training, on behalf of a number of local authorities. The Brent and Harrow not in education, employment or training (NEET) teams delivered an employability session at Wembley Stadium, aiming to inspire a group of unemployed young people across the two boroughs. 16 young people attended the event, including young people who were referred from the local authority social services.
The day started with a quiz based around Wembley Stadium enabling the young people to learn more about its history. The young people then had the opportunity to sit in the Stadium's seating area and learn about the jobs available and the skills required for the different roles. Careers activities took place throughout the day, inspiring the young people to think about their future career goals. They finished the day with a tour around the Stadium and were surprised with tickets to the England game.
One parent commented: “James* is still excited by the visit, telling his sisters all about it. It was a lovely day out and he understood the underlining message.”
One young person said: "I feel inspired and encouraged! It was motivational and nice to hear that a happy and successful life does not equal money."
