Improve Your Prospects at the Skills Show
Colleagues delivering Improve Your Prospects, exhibited at the Skills Show. The skills, Apprenticeships and careers event took place at the NEC Birmingham last week (Thursday 17-Saturday 19 December).
Improve Your Prospects is a re-engagement course for young people aged 16-24 who are not in employment, education or training (NEET), living in Leicestershire. The programme encourages young people to springboard onto Apprenticeships, employment, education, Traineeships or unpaid work. Improve Your Prospects is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and Skills Funding Agency. It focuses on Leicester & Leicestershire Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LLLEP) priorities of supporting more young people in to Apprenticeships and reducing the numbers of NEET young people by 50%.
Over the three days colleagues from Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and the Marketing and Communications team supported Michael Larbalestier, Director of Digital Business Innovation, on the stand. Michael, who has worked with Improve Your Prospects team, demonstrated to young visitors how virtual and augmented reality could be used to learn about careers, employers and industries.
Michael said: “We had a hugely successful time, with an estimated 1,200 people engaging with our various employability skills challenges. It was apparent that our stand had many more visitors than most of the other ESF exhibitors. That was due to the enthusiasm of the colleagues and their willingness to engage warmly with a diverse range of visitors.”
