Every young person who needs support from Prospects Northamptonshire on results day gets to meet with a personal adviser, like Chris Southey. Results days are very busy and rewarding for Chris, who works in a school. On both A levels and GCSE results days Chris helps students who do not get the grades they need, as well as being on hand to help students who achieve better than expected grades.
On results day Chris meets students to discuss the reasons for the mismatched grades. Some students are very honest and will say that they have not been working, others find the way the exams went on the day did not suit them. Together with the young person Chris looks at their options. In some cases Chris advocates for the young person with the school, others receive support to go to college. Chris’s role is to make sure the students get impartial advice and details of courses and help with online applications.
Some students decide that full time learning is not for them and look at apprenticeships. Again Chris is on hand to give them all the relevant information and advice on CV writing.
Chris finds exam results days can be very emotional, commenting: “Very often students come to me in tears, but they leave happy with a list of options to look at and apply for, it’s good to know you can help them move forwards with their lives.”
Like the students Chris meets, you may not know about all the different options, so if you need more advice you can get help and impartial advice from Prospects.
