Adult Skills London
At the beginning of February, the National Careers Service and Prospects ran a free Adult Skills event at the Mermaid Centre in Blackfriars, London.
ult Skills London is the National Careers Service’s largest event in the capital, aimed directly at recruitment and skills for adults.
35 organisations exhibited at the event and raised awareness of their industries.
The event gave exhibitors the opportunity to meet potential candidates, inform them of current vacancies and how to apply, as well as describe the careers they could have with each company.
National Careers Service advisers were available throughout the day, providing one to one support for enhancing CVs, employment training, career progression, career changes and applications and interview tips.
Among the employers delivering seminars were Crossrail, the British Army and Premier Inn. They gave prospective applicants an insight into their organisations and available jobs in London. The seminar programme proved to be popular, with more than 70 customers attending each of the12 seminars.
In total, more than 1,300 customers attended the Adult Skills event, 72 people had a one to one session with a National Careers Service adviser and 414 people booked an appointment at their local National Careers Service for the near future.
Janice Pigott, Regional Director, National Careers Service London, said; “The volume of customers wanting to meet an employer or a careers adviser clearly shows the necessity and importance of such events; we were delighted to provide much needed support and inspiration for so many people.”
Prospects was able to reach customers unfamiliar with the National Careers Service, including those already employed but seeking career progression or a career change.
