Miranda* gets FTSE 100 role

"The National Careers Service made the world of difference, I was becoming lethargic and disillusioned, plus my confidence had been hit. I needed some direction and a boost and got that in spades."

Before Prospects

Miranda* became unemployed when her contract as a Project Officer with Avon and Somerset Police Constabulary came to an end. She was unemployed for a number of months, and became increasingly frustrated with not being able to secure a new job, which has knocked her confidence.

What Prospects did

Miranda contacted the National Careers Service in January and met her Job Coach. She felt her CV needed to be updated and reviewed. She needed help finding a new job using more modern job search techniques, as well as some direction on where to look for project management roles in Bristol.

Miranda found the sessions really good and highly informative. She spent her first appointment talking about my career options and the free training opportunities available. Her Job Coach also helped Miranda to understand where to look for roles with her skill set. In addition, Miranda received further help applying for jobs and preparing for interviews. She comments about the help: “it was excellent and gave me the reassurance I needed.”

During her sessions Miranda and Michelle, her coach, produced an Action Plan. Miranda also took away various handouts covering using social media to search for jobs, interview skills, and recruitment agencies. Miranda felt these were really helpful coupled with her Action Plan to help her progress.

Outcomes and results

Miranda was successful in gaining interviews and was appointed as a junior project manager with a FTSE 100 engineering firm.

Miranda comments: “A massive thank you to Michelle and the National Careers Service for everything you do, I will be staying touch.  The National Careers Service made the world of difference, I was becoming lethargic and disillusioned, plus my confidence had been hit.  I needed some direction and a boost and got that in spades. I am now confident and can project my skills and sell myself confidently. I have a good CV and I can write a good job application on my own. I also know I can contact Michelle for further help as and when I need.”

Miranda now plans to bed in within her role as a junior project manager with the new company and progress successfully.
