The National Careers Service gets Lisa* to Do it!

09 July 2015

National Careers ServiceBefore Prospects

In 2010 Lisa* had a cycling accident which prevented her from working. Lisa required five operations and had knee surgery in 2014. She was keen to get back to work.

Lisa had previously worked with adults with mental illness and held an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.

Lisa found being out of work left her feeling frustrated and she lost her confidence, querying if anyone could help her resolve her situation.

What Prospects did

Lisa met with Kam, a National Careers Service adviser working for Prospects in September 2014. Kam gave Lisa advice about becoming a volunteer, college courses and which websites would help her. Lisa had already completed a Skills Health Check and Kam helped Lisa produce a CV.

Kam stayed in touch and encouraged Lisa, ensuring she stayed positive and motivated whilst she looked at her options and searched for a job.

Kam gave Lisa personalised advice and helped Lisa to believe in herself. This helped Lisa realise that she could achieve her goals and ultimately gain employment sooner rather than later.

Outcomes and results

Lisa was offered a job after her first interview. She is now working as a Personal Support Assistant. Lisa aims to work hard and maximise her training to continually improve her skills. Lisa has encouraged others to contact the National Careers Service, telling them about her own positive experience. She believes anyone considering contacting the National Careers Service should "Do it! You'll be glad you did!"
