#Proud to Foster

This Monday (14 May), sees the start of Foster Care Fortnight. Fostering to Inspire is Prospects independent fostering agency and is supporting The Fostering Network's annual initiative. Fostering to Inspire provides foster placements on behalf of local authorities for children and young people across the north of England.

Fostering to Inspire was set up by Prospects in 2016 to initially support young people in Yorkshire and the Humber. At Prospects we believe our experience of working with the most vulnerable young people in society for more than 20 years gives us a unique insight into the needs of children and particularly the importance of a nurturing, safe and supportive family home. In all our work we help our children and young people recover from past trauma and abuse. We have high aspirations in respect of quality care and positive outcomes for our children and young people and ethos encourages the children and young people in our care to develop their potential as they move towards adulthood.

An extended family approach

We work very closely with our foster carers to ensure they provide an environment that very much acts as an ‘extended family’ around the fostering home and the child. We recognise the importance of support for a fostering family and employ a team approach in everything we do. Our carers are never left to ‘go it alone’. We provide training opportunities for our foster carers to build their skills and knowledge to the long-term benefit of our fostered children.

Fostering to Inspire is working to gain accreditation to the Mockingbird Family Model which brings together clusters of foster families to form constellations of support. Constellations function like an extended family in the best sense - with a central foster carer acting like Grandma or Auntie’s house; where both children and the adults who care for them can find quality, tangible support to thrive.

Prospects is #Proudtofoster and encourages anyone wanting to find out more about Fostering to Inspire's work to visit or Facebook
