Practically perfect in every way!

Prospects helps prepare Foxes Academy students for interviews.

On Thursday 24 and Friday 25 May 2018, key workers from Somerset, Loretta Brown and Julie Holder, spent two days at the award winning Foxes Academy in Minehead helping prepare their year 3 learners for interviews. This community activity was carefully coordinated with National Careers Service colleagues, who have worked with the students for several months. Laura Salter, curriculum team leader for Foxes Academy felt the learners would benefit from interview experience with people they had never met before and following contact with Graham Humphreys, this worthwhile activity was set in motion.

Foxes Academy has a commanding position in Minehead with a superb seafront training hotel for young people with learning difficulties, a dedicated training academy and various accommodation throughout the town. Courses are holistic and unique and their consistently excellent results have resulted in lots of media attention including on Channel 5 and awards. Students enrol from all parts of the country and develop independence, learning social and practical hospitality skills in a live environment, as Foxes Academy’s hotel has paying guests and VIP functions. Their mission is ‘To inspire our young people to go into the world with skills, confidence and a passion to succeed’.

Loretta and Julie received a warm welcome from the staff and learners and found it to be a humbling and memorable experience.

Foxes’ learners represent a wide spectrum of learning difficulties. During the three year residential courses, they are inspired to achieve great things. The hotel is impeccable and everyone has a sense of pride in what they are doing. Mary Poppins’ catchphrase: “practically perfect in every way!” popped up regularly during the visit, and is a phrase which effectively sums up the whole ambience of Foxes.

The mock interviews were a great success, Laura was grateful for the help and learners reported back that they felt they were prepared well for forthcoming interviews.
