News Release - Prospects wins contract to support pre-schools and childminders in Southampton

03 August 2015

Prospects, the education, employment and training company, has won the contract to deliver quality support services to pre-schools and childminders in Southampton. The contracted service is primarily to support early years settings, given a less than ‘Good’ grade at their last Ofsted inspection, improve the quality of their offer to parents and young children.

Prospects have successfully provided services to pre-schools in Southampton since 2013 and are pleased to now be able to offer their Early Years Support Service to registered settings including childminders.

Prospects will work alongside directly employed local authority staff to provide support, advice and guidance to the childcare sector. In response to the change to the role of the Local Authority in supporting childcare sufficiency and childcare provision that does not meet the standard of ‘Good’ (as judged by Ofsted) Southampton City Council will be proactive in ensuring the delivery of quality support and sufficiency of early years’ education and childcare providers. The new service will complement the sufficiency activity and the Local Authority’s support, advice and guidance role.

In addition, Prospects will manage the provision of childcare services (‘Childcare Framework’) for children and young people where a public sector organisation is seeking placements on a short term basis.

John Theedom, Director of Prospects Early Years, said: “Prospects has worked closely with the council to make a difference to the lives of some of the city’s youngest children and we are delighted Southampton City Council has chosen us to deliver this new expanded contract. In the two years we have worked with pre-school settings in the city we have developed trusting relationships and made a positive impact. We are now looking forward to helping improve education and care for young children attending early years’ settings. Prospects has a wealth of experience and expertise in assisting pre-school and child-minding settings. We work alongside providers to ensure every child is given the best possible start in life through their early years’ experiences, with safeguarding at the heart of everything we do.”

Anne Downie, Early Years and Childcare Manager with Southampton City Council, said: “We look forward to continuing to work with Prospects in supporting early year providers within Southampton. We know that attending high quality early years’ provision has a lasting positive effect on children’s lives.”

Prospects already delivers early years support programmes to childcare providers in Hampshire and Kent through contracts with those local authorities.
