"It’s given me a whole new outlook on life!"
Andrea*, 41, has been unemployed for more than two years. She has one child and was subjected to domestic abuse in a previous relationship.
Andrea had experience working as a cleaner both as an employee and self-employed.
What Prospects did
Andrea joined the Work Programme in February 2016. Working with a personal adviser Andrea improved her CV. Through the one-to-one support offered by Prospects Andrea’s confidence grew. To further help her regain her self esteem and address her past, Andrea was referred to the SUzie Project, who support to survivors of domestic abuse to rebuild their lives across Cornwall.
Andrea was keen to change her career and work with animals. To help her gain the skills she needed she started a course at Cornwall College.
Outcomes and results
As Andrea’s confidence grew she began to believe in herself and her abilities. She was invited to an interview at Pets at Home. Andrea was successful and is now working 16 hours a week and is signing off benefits.
Working with Prospects helped Andrea improve her confidence and self-esteem, vital to gaining a job. Andrea says: “I had no self-esteem or belief in myself. This has given me a whole new outlook on life!”
